Today is a morning of R&R; we slept past our usual 5 AM breakfast call, and enjoyed a leisurely wake up, watching the sunrise over the trees from our room. We thought you might enjoy having a look at our little piece of Botanica, our walk to the dining room, and the chorus that serenades us in the morning.
We took the opportunity of having some free time to explore the many nature walking trails about the property. We made some photos of the unique vegetation, some leaf cutter ants, and a leaf footed bug.

One trail brought us out onto a dock in the bay where we lingered in the salt air breezes, a welcome respite from the still humid air just inland on the path. This screenshot of our photograph map shows Botanica near the airstrip, the dock, and the many trails through the forest.

The creeks and water about Botanica are filled with reptiles, from which we kept our distance, especially the ones with big teeth.

There are a plethora of birds to try and photograph.

On one bank was a rookery with a couple of cattle egret chicks in toddler mode!

We passed several stands of bamboo, their height impressive .
The afternoon presented itself with the usual rain storm, and we took the indoor time to go through our many photos and prepare for our day tomorrow, when we cruise down the Sierpe River. After another evening meal with our fellow photographers, reflecting on our many experiences over the past few days, we walked back to our rooms with a deep dark night sky as our umbrella. These words by Curtis Tyrone Jones resonate with us this evening:
“Most nights you’ll find me swinging in the hammock of the moon,
sipping the night black, a few stars as sugar cubes.”
A fine day of R&R.
